The Cabo Verdean diaspora is one of the most geographically dispersed in the world relative to the population of the home islands. From New Bedford to Rotterdam, Cabo Verdeans have built thriving communities while maintaining deep ties to their homeland. At CVCAR, our interdisciplinary research on the diaspora draws from sociology, anthropology, history, and cultural studies to examine the lived experiences of Cabo Verdean communities abroad. We ask questions about identity formation, intergenerational transmission of culture, and the political and economic relationships between the diaspora and Cabo Verde. Our findings aim to inform both academic scholarship and community-driven initiatives that support Cabo Verdeans wherever they are.
